March 24th and I’m finally updating the web site. It’s been a rather mild winter here. One cold snap of sub zero temps and a large late snow fall followed by another. Spring is coming quickly with a long stretch of above normal temperature and rapid snow melt. Most of the fields are still quite spongey but the garlic should be poking up any day now. The Greenhouse is changing over from baby greens production to vegetable starts; Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant and Onions are all up and growing. I just planted a bed of radishes in the unheated greenhouse. Still have the bulk of the seeding still to do. You’ve probably planted you’re garlic by now but for next year, garlic growing instructions can be found Here or by going to the Garlic page.. If you’re returning, thanks for the patience, if you’re new, Welcome!   If you wish to contact us, please send an E-mail to: dancingbearfarm@mac.com

Dancing Bear Farm is located in the town of Leyden, Mass. On the border of Vermont, we are in the foothills of the Green Mountains, at about 1200 feet of altitude. The farm is 24 acres of hay, pasture, fields, ponds and trees. We cultivate about 5 acres of vegetables each year. Our two greenhouses (2880 sq. ft. total) produce starter plants in the spring as well as cherry tomatoes and sweet peppers thru the summer and fall, and baby lettuce greens during the winter.

Our goal is to produce high quality food while being a steward of the land. From our start back in ’81 we have grown by traditional, organic methods. No “chemical” fertilizers, pesticides, nor herbicides have ever been used on our farm and never will be. While we are no longer certified organic, we have always grown with organic methods and we always will. For more on that, go to this page.

We invite you to browse around the site to find out more about us. You’ll find lots of pictures, a few movies, information and opinions. If you have any questions, please contact us.

The newest thing on the farm is the truck. Purchased used over the winter, we have just finished

Some tips on navigating the site: the list to the right of crops we grow contains links to pages with more information on each crop. (or will when I get done) Those pages in turn, have links to pages with more photos and whatnot. So, move your mouse around and click on things that change color. The pages listed on the top banner will be on every page, so you can always get back to here. The What’s Growing On page will have the most current content.
